Post-doc positions at the University of Cambridge

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position to join the laboratory of Dr Axel Zeitler. We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work on the development of a perforated pan coater coupled to an existing terahertz in-line measurement sensor to determine the coating thickness of pharmaceutical tablets during a coating process. The project is funded jointly by the EPSRC and Newton Trust. As part of a previous research project we have demonstrated the measurement concept of this technology in an industrial scale process coater. The aim of this project is to establish the measurement technology in our lab using a much smaller sized coating drum, which will allow us to systematically study the mixing behaviour and mass transfer within a coater during process conditions. The post is available from 1st July 2012.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in a relevant field and a strong track record in terahertz spectroscopy and/or imaging.
Essential skills:
- Experience in the field of sensor design or integration
- Signal processing and data analysis using Matlab
Desirable:
- It is highly desirable that the candidate has a proven track record in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and imaging
- Hands on experience working with ultrafast lasers
- Good working knowledge of Python, LabView and Origin
- Design of new equipment using software such as AutoCAD and subsequent commissioning of such new equipment in collaboration with a mechanical workshop
- Excellent publication record demonstrating the ability to disseminate their research at both conferences and in peer-reviewed publications
To apply, please send the following to the Research Secretary, Mrs Amanda Taylor, atrecruitment@ceb.cam.ac.uk:
- A statement of the University’s reference number (NQ17072) in the subject line of your email
- A covering letter
- A detailed CV
- A list of publications
- A completed CHRIS/6 form (Parts 1 and 3 only; please do not complete Part 2), which can be downloaded, with the titles, names and email addresses of three referees.
Email is preferred; however, if you are unable to send your application via email, you may send it by post to The Research Secretary, Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, New Museums Site, Pembroke Street, Cambridge CB2 3RA.
Further information about the research group can be found at the group’s website (www.ceb.cam.ac.uk/thz.php). Informal enquires may be made to Dr Axel Zeitler (jaz22@cam.ac.uk). Please do not send applications to this address; all applications must go to the recruitment email address above.
* Limit of tenure: 1 Year.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position to join the laboratory of Dr Axel Zeitler. We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to work on the development of a technology demonstrator for monitoring paint coating thickness in real time on the production line in car manufacturing. Several car manufacturers have expressed interest in applying this technology to assist in monitoring and control of the painting process. By using terahertz imaging we aim to introduce a new sensor technology to the automotive industry. Technical innovations include real time signal processing, robot control of the terahertz sensor and creation of a ruggedised instrument suitable for industrial deployment. This project is funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and work will be carried out in close collaboration with TeraView Ltd. and a UK based automotive manufacturer.
